Extreme Skier Falls off Cliff at Tuckerman Ravine

Up near the top Mount Washington,  one of the best extreme, backcountry skiing areas on the East Coast lies Tuckerman Ravine. Famous for the amazing snow and difficult terrain that is relatively easy to get too (depending on the season, only a 1km hike in the spring, longer in the winter). Tuckerman Ravine is also very popular, attracting thousands of visitors on spring weekends. There’s even a t-bar up there that’s operational now.

In this backcountry ski video, we see a skier attempt to go down Lunch Rocks on the Ravine. It doesn’t look like he’s a very good skier and it doesn’t look like he scouted out the decent. He does a couple turns between the cliffs and tries to stop at the top of a cliff, only to fall off the cliff head first. Good lesson here, don’t stop near the edge of a cliff, better yet, he shouldn’t have tried to stop at all!

Remember, always scout out your area and don’t go on terrain that is over your head.

Banff Backcountry Ski and Snowboard Contest – Big Bang 2008

Sweet ski video of the annual Banff Big Bang Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding Contest out in the scenic, Canadian Rockies. This backcountry skiing video includes BIG air jumps, Step ups, and Cliff Jumping. There is a bit of glade skiing with some grinding on trees, but it is very easy gladed terrain here in Banff compared to what is seen in Vermont.

There are some sick extreme ski jumps in the video including many flips. Some of the skiers and snowboarders going off the cliffs look like they’re about to kill themselves however after coming very close to falling after the first part of the cliff jump. Most of the competitors aren’t pros, just expert and experianced amateurs doing there thing.

These are great contests to enter if you enjoy extreme skiing. Most big mountains known for their backcountry and extreme ski slopes organize annual tournaments like this.

Backcountry Skiing at Sunday River in Maine

Sunday river is a huge ski resort (200 runs) out in Maine, in the New England area of the states. It just opened their 2010 seaons 2 days ago, on Friday the 22nd of October, making it the first resort to open in the USA this year.

Here is some great footage of some of the backcountry woods at Sunday River. Most of the video is some kids skiing, but they’re solid and look like pros. Beautiful glades at a resort not that famous for it. Would love to check it out.

Arne Backstorm Winning Run at FWT Championship

Arne Backstorm, an amazing skier who unfortunately died this week while skiing in the mountains in Peru, won the 2010 Freeskiing World Tour in Revelstoke BC, a world renown backcountry skiing heaven. Here is a ski video of his winning run off a mountain peak in Revelstoke. The winning ski run includes many obstacles and difficulties such as rocks, deep powder, and cliff drops.

The winner is selected by a panel of judges based on ski technique, speed, and difficulty of line. This is an all out awesome backcountry ski run. Backcounty skiing technique doesn’t get more perfect than this!

Amateur Heliskiing on Mt. Cook in New Zealand

Beautiful blue bird skis on a heliski trip in the New Zealand Mountains. The backcountry heliskiing video has some beautiful footage from inside the chopper as the skiers are traveling to their destination deep in the New Zealand backcountry.

The terrain is easy with some amazing camera work. If you were ever tempted to start heli-skiing, the terrain they show in this video shows how easy the backcountry terrain can be. Great skiing technique from the skiers.

If you can’t want for the North American/European winter to come back, this ski video shows why you should go skiing in New Zealand.

Skier Goes on Race Course and Collides with Racer Training

In this funny skiing video of a ski accident, a skier goes onto a race course while a racer is training. The skiers collide in a horrible but funny way and the racer seems to be about to hit the other skier with his ski pole but holds himself back.

This ski video is a textbook example showing why one should stay away from ski racer training courses!

The ski accident in this video was filmed in Poiana Brasov, a ski resort in the Carpati Mountains in Romania. A really nice ski resort very different from the huge ski resorts in the Alps.

Backcountry Skiing in the Glades in Vermont

A great ski video of my favorite type of skiing! Skiing in the woods! These skiers are great and the ski video footage is amazing as they ski through the area I fell in love with skiing, Vermont USA.

As a note from the uploader, there is a small part of the skiing video that is filmed outside Vermont in New Hampshire on Mount Washington, a well known extreme skiing location in Eastern USA.

Beaver Creek Colorado Ski Race Crash of Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal

A training run on the Birds of Prey downhill race at Beaver Creek Ski Resort, near Avon Colorado in the Rocky Mountrains, turns tragic for Norwegian alpine skier Aksel Lund Svindal. As the ski racer speeds down the slope, he gets some big air off a lip and somersaults into the protective fencing. The skiing accident is horrible and he ends up in the hospital with career threatening injuries. He recovers  however, and a year later is back to World Cup ski racing getting his first two new victories at the same place he suffered his ski accident, at Beaver Creek, Colorado, USA.

The Birds of Prey downhill ski racing course is a challenging run with up to 45 degree slopes used for World Cup Skiing Super-G, and Super combined races. This run at Beaver Creek, Colorado, has a vertical drop of over 2600 feet This ski racing videos shows Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal horrible accident during training for such an event. The ending showing him in the hospital reminds us that we can never be too careful when practicing extreme sports.

Awesome Deep Powder Skiing in the Glades

As the title of this video says, the coolest extreme skiing dudes, is a really cool ski video of extreme skiing in the woods. The pro extreme skiers go ski jumping over cliffs in the glades, go down some crazy steeps between cliffs, and do some simple tricks all with great camera work in some really deep powder. These extreme skiers make it look too easy.

On top of the amazing deep powder skiing, there is also some solid telemark skiing.

The scenery is also splendid, would love to go skiing there. Unfortunately, I have no idea where this video is filmed…
