Skiing into Corbet’s Couloir at Jason Hole. Guy Gets Injured!

Tuesday 16 February 2010 @ 2:16 pm

Corbet’s Couloir is the most famous and hardest run at Jackson Hole in Wyoming.  It is one of the few slopes to have its own wikipedia article! Here are some highlights:

“Currently rated #4 on the top fifty things for skiers to do before they die, it holds an international reputation among expert skiers, and has been described as “America’s scariest ski slope

“Entrance into the couloir requires dropping off a cornice with a free fall ranging from 10 to 30 feet (9.1 m) depending upon snow conditions, landing on a 60 plus degree slope.”

So it’s pretty hard. In this ski video, we see the guy skiing up to the ski run, past a big “CLOSED” sign. They chill up at the top and watch a guy ski down it nicely. The camera man’s friend then jumps in, doesn’t look too good. We are then informed that he “yard saled” and see him collecting his equipment. Ends up he has an ACL injury, that sucks. Awesome run though!

Compilation of 3 Cliff Drops Over 200 Feet High

Friday 15 January 2010 @ 6:10 am

Crazy skiers dropping 200+ feet on skis. Check out the 2nd one, he almost hits a huge rock at the bottom, must be inches away from it! The mini avalanches he creates while getting speed for the jump are pretty cool. The highest is 245 feet. I can’t imagine what goes through their minds as they jump…

If you are wondering why they are landing upside down but slightly on their backs after the cliff drops it’s because the force of the landing will probably break their legs.

Here’s the name and height of each crazy high cliff jump:

  • Titus Engelborg ski jumps off a 210 foot high clif
  • Leo Brayman sk jumps off a 230 foot high cliff
  • Jamie Pierre ski jumps off a 245 foot high cliff

Jay Peak 70 inches (175cm) of Champagne Powder!

Wednesday 6 January 2010 @ 5:55 pm

Some sweet video shots of deep powder skiing in the glades at one of the best ski resorts on the East Coast. The riders know what they’re doing as they fly between obstacles. Can’t stop talking saying good things about Jay Peak, most snow in the East (32 feet!) and lots and lots of crazy expert ski terrain in the woods.

It’s normally hard to get decent video out in the forest but these guys do an amazing job. There’s a close moment in the middle of the video where a rider does a cliff drop in the glades and almost lands on another riders, but nothing happened.

“I love Jay but I’m Not Gay”

Skiing in 3 Feet of Powder in Val d’Isère

Thursday 3 September 2009 @ 12:46 pm

Amazing skiing conditions in Val d’Isère with 3 feet of fresh powder on the ground. These extreme skiers catch these conditions and film this ski video at the top of Glacier de Pisaillas. Val d’Isère is one of the best and biggest ski resorts in the French Alps. There is plenty of skiing for everyone, from beginners to backcountry experts as can be seen in this video.

Watch in this ski video and how pro skiers, which are part of the Bonskieur Ski Team,  ski in deep powder. The terrain isn’t very hard or steep but any extreme backcountry skier would dream of going down a run like that. Can’t catch conditions like this everyday.

Deep Powder Skiing in Alta, Utah

Tuesday 25 August 2009 @ 3:30 pm

60cm (24 inches) of fresh powder makes for some amazing skiing conditions in the extreme skiing video filmed in the backcountry in Alta, Utah. Alta is famous for its backcountry and amazing snow conditions, the extreme skiers in this video know how rare conditions like these are and take full advantage of them. This is close to Salt Lake City, where the 2002 Winter Olympic Games took place.

The ski is blue and the snow is fresh, making for some of the best filming conditions. The skiers in this ski video don’t do anything crazy or any cliffs, but they have near perfect form and there is a bit of glade skiing too!

Extreme Skiing in Roldal Norway: Falling Off a cliff

Saturday 22 August 2009 @ 10:43 am

A sweet extreme skiing video filmed in Norway near Roldal. The skier is very good and the ski video starts off with some beautifully executed turns in fresh, virgin powder. Near the end of the video however, the skier does a mistake and stops atop of an unseen cliff, some 15m high and falls off. He seems ok at the end but is still injured. Should serve as a warning to always be on the lookout for cliffs when off piste and out in the backcountry.

The video is very well filmed and shows some amazing Norwegian landscapes in the mountains. Norway isn’t the first place people think about when extreme skiing comes to mind, but the terrain in the video is awesome.
