Skiing Tuckerman Ravine on Mt Washington in April 2009
Skiing Tuckerman Ravine, a steep skiing area on Mt Washington, New Hampshire, the highest mountain peak in Eastern North America, is a popular backcountry skiers location. There is a pretty long hike up, about 2km in the spring when the road opens and over 5km before. It is very popular in the Spring time, sometimes open till June, as it is less likely for avalanches to occur then and the weather is warmer. At the peak of the season, there can be 1000 backcountry skiers in skiing Tuckerman’s Ravine and jumping off the many cliffs. There is now also a t-bar which can take you about half way up. The area is also patrolled by a volunteer ski patrol during peak times.
In this backcountry skiing video, you follow a group of skiers and snowboarders as they hike up to Tuckerman Ravine. They then film some skiers going down, one of them doing a small cliff jump. They then film their decent as they ski down Tuckerman Ravine and had into the wooded area. I never knew there ware glades in that area.
This ski video provides a great overview of the skiing at Mt Washington for anyone interested in backountry skiing areas.

Ski Big Air Gold Finals at X Games #13 (2009)
In terms of extreme skiing competitions, the Winter X Games is the best known. For the last 8 years, it’s been held in Aspen Colorado and attracts some of the best extreme skiing and snowboarders from around the world.
In this extreme skiing video, Jon Olsson and Simon Dumont compete for the gold in the finals if the Big Air Skiing competition. Jon Olsson does an inverted 1080 while holding a grab the whole time, he also takes off and lands backwards. The second extreme skier, Simon Dumont does a front flip like it’s nothing on the run up to the big air jump. Off the big air jump, he does another front flip, then, while doing the second front flip, does a Superman. Both jumps are executed flawlessly, and the landings are perfect.
—-> FUNNY <—-
Also, for a laugh, check out 1:44 of the video where the camera man falls off the jump, LOL.

Deep Powder Skiing in Alta, Utah
60cm (24 inches) of fresh powder makes for some amazing skiing conditions in the extreme skiing video filmed in the backcountry in Alta, Utah. Alta is famous for its backcountry and amazing snow conditions, the extreme skiers in this video know how rare conditions like these are and take full advantage of them. This is close to Salt Lake City, where the 2002 Winter Olympic Games took place.
The ski is blue and the snow is fresh, making for some of the best filming conditions. The skiers in this ski video don’t do anything crazy or any cliffs, but they have near perfect form and there is a bit of glade skiing too!

Mad River Glen: Skiing in the Woods
Here is a skiing video of some guy skiing through the glades at Mad River Glen in Vermont. Mad River Glen is one of my favorite resorts and it’s in Vermont. It is a backcountry skier’s heaven as it has plenty of snow and some of the most unforgiving terrain possible all with a “ski it if you can” policy. This ski video is a bit short but the skiing is solid and shows some of the terrain available out there.

Jackson Hole Backcountry Skiing with a Lateral Flip off a Cliff
A sweet ski video with some original tricks. A guy does a lateral flip off a cliff midway through the video, there are multiple front and back flips, and inversions. It is snowing almost the whole time as is coming in Jackson Hole and the power is so deep you can barely make the skiers out at times. Although this is filmed by amateurs but it is better than many professionally done videos and they ski as well as most professionals.
Jackson Hole is a dream for many extreme skiers and is one of the world’s best and most famous backcountry ski resorts in the world. The backcountry is huge, open to extreme skiers and riders, is full of an obstacles, and has many unique areas. Some of the world’s hardest and most extreme skiing terrain can be found here. It is however located in Wyoming which makes it hard to get to but in turn creates a much more wilderness skiing atmosphere when compared to the resort type ski resorts.

Extreme Mountain Ski Accident
Just as he starts to ski down a 800 foot vertical drop high up in the Chugach Mountains near Valdez Alaska, Garret Bartelt’s ski tip catches the ground and flips him over. There are rocks sticking out everywhere and the path is pretty narrow at times. Garret end up falling the hole way down miraculasely missing most of the rocks in the way, only hitting 5 of them. He survives the accident with only a compound fracture to his leg and some cuts and bruises. That was one amazing fall, not many people can fall like that and survive to tell the story much less with only minor injuries.
