Skiing Tuckerman Ravine on Mt Washington in April 2009

Skiing Tuckerman Ravine, a steep skiing area on Mt Washington, New Hampshire, the highest mountain peak in Eastern North America, is a popular backcountry skiers location. There is a pretty long hike up, about 2km in the spring when the road opens and over 5km before. It is very popular in the Spring time, sometimes open till June, as it is less likely for avalanches to occur then and the weather is warmer. At the peak of the season, there can be 1000 backcountry skiers in skiing Tuckerman’s Ravine and jumping off the many cliffs. There is now also a t-bar which can take you about half way up. The area is also patrolled by a volunteer ski patrol during peak times.

In this backcountry skiing video, you follow a group of skiers and snowboarders as they hike up to Tuckerman Ravine. They then film some skiers going down, one of them doing a small cliff jump. They then film their decent as they ski down Tuckerman Ravine and had into the wooded area. I never knew there ware glades in that area.

This ski video provides a great overview of the skiing at Mt Washington for anyone interested in backountry skiing areas.

Ski Big Air Gold Finals at X Games #13 (2009)

In terms of extreme skiing competitions, the Winter X Games is the best known. For the last 8 years, it’s been held in Aspen Colorado and attracts some of the best extreme skiing and snowboarders from around the world.

In this extreme skiing video, Jon Olsson and Simon Dumont compete for the gold in the finals if the Big Air Skiing competition. Jon Olsson does an inverted 1080 while holding a grab the whole time, he also takes off and lands backwards. The second extreme skier, Simon Dumont does a front flip like it’s nothing on the run up to the big air jump. Off the big air jump, he does another front flip, then, while doing the second front flip, does a Superman. Both jumps are executed flawlessly, and the landings are perfect.

—-> FUNNY <—-

Also, for a laugh, check out 1:44 of the video where the camera man falls off the jump, LOL.

Skiing in 3 Feet of Powder in Val d’Isère

Amazing skiing conditions in Val d’Isère with 3 feet of fresh powder on the ground. These extreme skiers catch these conditions and film this ski video at the top of Glacier de Pisaillas. Val d’Isère is one of the best and biggest ski resorts in the French Alps. There is plenty of skiing for everyone, from beginners to backcountry experts as can be seen in this video.

Watch in this ski video and how pro skiers, which are part of the Bonskieur Ski Team,  ski in deep powder. The terrain isn’t very hard or steep but any extreme backcountry skier would dream of going down a run like that. Can’t catch conditions like this everyday.

Mt Blanc Glacier Skiing in March

Here we have a Mt Blanc glacier ski video filmed on the Brenva Glacier in the backcountry of Chamonix. For those who don’t know, Mt Blanc is the highest peak in the Europe and is located in the French Alps, close to the Swiss border. The town of the resort is Chamonix and is well known as one of the best ski resorts in the world.

The snow skiers in this video ski do some hiking using freeride binding that unhook at the heel and then ski down some incredible steeps in the glaciers in powder only found in the backcountry.

Note that most of the skiing starts after the half way point of the video.

Dangling Skier Falls off a Ski Lift

A skier gets stuck on a ski lift and is seen hanging off it by some piece of clothing. What happened was that the skier tried to get off the chairlift but his coat got stuck, leaving the dangling skier hanging high up. The skier eventually falls off the chairlift onto the snow, some 5 meters below and is immediately attended to. The unlucky skier gets hurt, but he escapes the ordeal with only minor injuries.

Ski Tricks over a Huge Gap at Whistler

Professional skiers jumping over a gap doing many crazy tricks such as 1080 inversions, flips, grabs, and many combinations. If you’ve played the tony hawk type games on the different consoles, the tricks these professional skiers do in this extreme skiing video are very similar.

The jump is man made at Whistler, in the Rockies. The gap I estimate is about 5m, and the skiers are in the air for a good 3-4 seconds!
